Dale has been an avid athlete from as long as he remembers. Being the youngest of four brothers, he had many examples. Brother, Peter Morrison, was a standout high school wrestler and runner. He competed in the early Chicago Marathons in 1980 and 1981. Following in their footsteps, Dale was a standout high school football and track athlete. Coach B’s Running Biography
Beginning in 2007, Baron Rush began formally coaching runners for the largest running group on Chicago’s South Side. Baron has been an integral part of the official USATF (United States of America Track and Field) affiliated running club MaxFitness, which caters to runners of all levels of ability.
Baron prides himself on being a relatable and experienced coach as his running history began early during his youth while in high school. During his U.S. Army career of 22 years he was a member of the 50 /100 Mile Club at Fort Benning, GA. While stationed at Fort Lewis, WA his unit placed #1 in both track and field, and cross country events in which he participated. During a period of inner reflection, Baron turned to running as the catalyst that took him physically and mentally to the next level. Baron’s most notable athletic achievement is his first completion of his first marathon, the “2005 Chicago Marathon”. In the 2006 Chicago Marathon Baron achieved a personal record (PR) of 04:09:16. Baron completed four additional marathons, and eleven half marathons and various short distance races.
As a continual student of exercise science, Baron strives to not only constantly improve his abilities as a runner, but also enhance his knowledge of the kinesthetic involved in improving a runner’s ability. Incorporating varied practices within his training acumen, Baron has been able to both maintain the engagement of his runners’ learning about their bodies and how to venture beyond their self- imposed limits. A complimentary aspect of Baron’s coaching is his constant encouragement, education on running methodologies and how to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. Baron’s belief is that proper nutrition and continual education about the sport are key components towards building a successful runner. Although his personal history and knowledge base contributes to his success as a coach, Baron believes the true measurement of his success is the degree of commitment, consistency, and fun he finds through running while educating and training others to do the same.
